Outlining a prototyping services page

A prototyping page succeeds when a visitor can tell what to send, what happens next and what they will receive. This guide builds one around a project intake sequence with a worked example.

Step one: define the intake — VoltusLabPeople connected by aclear purpose

01

Step one: define the intake

Start with the information needed to judge a project: the problem being solved, desired function, power source and voltage range, size limits, target quantity and deadline. Present these as a short form or checklist rather than an open invitation. Worked example: a founder wants a battery-powered soil sensor. The intake captures the sensing goal, a three volt supply, outdoor exposure, a handheld size and a single working unit. Asking for these early filters mismatched requests, saves a first call and lets the lab respond with a realistic plan instead of generic reassurance.

Step two: scope the first build

Next, separate what the first prototype must prove from what can wait. Describe stages in plain order: concept review, schematic or wiring plan, parts selection, assembly, bench testing and a written summary. For the soil sensor, the first build might prove only that readings are stable on battery power, leaving enclosure design and weatherproofing for later. State what a client supplies and what the lab handles. Offer a clear deliverable such as a working unit, a parts list and test notes. Keeping the scope narrow makes pricing, timing and expectations easier to explain on the page.

Step three: show review and follow-up — VoltusLabVoltusLab · Creative

Step three: show review and follow-up

Finish the page by explaining how results are shared and what choices follow. Include a review point where the client sees test notes, a short list of issues found and options for a second round, a handoff to a manufacturer or a pause. For the soil sensor, the summary might compare battery draw across settings and recommend one design change. Mention safety considerations for batteries and mains power in plain terms, and say what the lab will not take on. Close with one clear action, submitting the intake, so the visitor leaves with a defined next step.
